How to Be Productive in a Remote Setting

When you have a clear list of things to do, it is not only easier to plan your entire day, but it also allows you to track your progress clearly. Plus, it helps you make sure that you don’t miss out on any important tasks.

Measuring Output Instead of Input

There is often a misconception that productive people DO a lot. This is not accurate at all!

People can be really busy, but that doesn’t mean they are accomplishing everything they need to accomplish. So the better statement is this – productive people FINISH a lot.

You can’t eliminate the things hindering your productivity if you don’t even monitor the time it takes for you to finish each task properly.

Look at every single task on your list, then track how much time it takes for you to finish each of them. It is also best to look at the degree of difficulty of each task. After some time, you’ll see a pattern of what kinds of tasks take the longest.

Tip #7: Take breaks.

Just because you have a lot on your plate doesn’t mean you work non-stop.

And nope, staying at your work desk and eating lunch while you continue to work on your tasks isn’t a legitimate break.

We’re defining the word “break” as completely stopping from the work you’re doing and doing something else – or doing nothing.

Overloading your brain with information without taking any breaks will tire your brain out. Your brain needs to reboot and recharge, especially if you’ve been working on extremely difficult tasks.

You can set a specific schedule throughout the day. Probably squeeze in a lunch break, then two snack breaks.

It’s also important that you listen to what your body and mind are telling you. Don’t stay glued to a chair the whole day; this will make your back unbearably sore. And if you feel like you’re dozing off or zoning out, don’t hesitate to take a walk around the block.

Tip #8: Conquer the hardest tasks first.

Sometimes, instinct tells us to finish off the tasks that are easiest. Sometimes, we even convince ourselves that this helps our brain get ready for the tougher tasks ahead.

But that’s just us procrastinating.

There is no better time to attack those tough tasks than the moment you start working. After all, this is when your mind is the freshest.

Also, keep in mind that challenging tasks often take time, while easier tasks normally require little time and effort. Getting started on those hard tasks give you the majority of the entire day. And once you’re done with them, it’s easier to fit the little time (and energy) you have left for the much easier tasks that you can complete even with your eyes closed.

Tip #9: Automate repetitive tasks.

The routines are great! It allows you to get into a steady rhythm that you can follow day in and day out.

But if your routine involves repetitive tasks that are manually done, you may also find that you’re wasting precious time that could be used on other, more important tasks. This is why it’s important to zero in on these tasks and find ways to automate them.

What kind of repetitive tasks are we talking about?
